KBell pickets; Fanboys release pushed... again; Sarah Marshall renamed?
Mostly a KBell news-related only entry.  Apologies.

Just wanted to link the small headline that Kristen made her way to the WGA picket line outside of NBC-Universal, to show her support for the writers.  Now that all of the thus-far scripted eps have been filmed and aired, I think more cast members from Heroes and various other shows may be doing what they can to be more visible and/or vocal in all of this.

Some online posters have griped over these "delayed" supporting actors, who continued to cross the picket lines to finish filming episodes for the first couple of weeks the strike was on.  Personally, I don't begrudge them for fulfilling their SAG contractual obligations, since they actually prolonged the work for the shows' crew members who are being hit hardest financially by this strike.  And IMO, delayed or not, any future appearances by actors along the strike lines are good, as their overall visibility helps the regular viewing public - who may not be internet-informed to all the details - know more about the importance of the WGA and AMPTA issues and why the work stoppage is happening.

Short interview with Kristen over at IGN, found HERE, and I'll c/p the text, too:

And again, I'll refer anyone who wants to see real actor/fan devotion to this cause to Whedonesque and that site's links to last Friday's Mutant Enemy Day - just look in the archives for November and December.  Regardless of the once-again stalled negotiations this weekend, having so many notable actors showing up in support of the writers - with fans (actual viewers the networks need) showing up, too - only helps to increase the awareness, especially when more news media outlets pick up the story.

In other news, it appears that the theatrical release date of Fanboys has once again been pushed back.  The future date is as-yet unspecified, even though IMDB still shows it incorrectly as 1/14/08.  The previous date was actually 1/18/08 - the same weekend that the J.J. Abrams-produced and Matt Reeves-directed thriller Cloverfield comes out.

Apparently The Weinstein Company has little faith in Fanboys to turn a profit, and keeps bumping it out of the way of other genre-blockbuster releases. However, it may also mean that the company is waiting for the release of the Judd Apatow-produced, Jason Segel-written comedy Forgetting Sarah Marshall, which may have been renamed to Dumped, based on short interviews with Russell Brand, and recently with Kristen Bell - backstage at the Spike TV 2007 Video Game Awards - referring to the title as such.  Not sure Dumped as the new title works for me. It may fall in line with the other Apatow produced and directed stuff, but it seems... baser.  The former sounds more indicative of the plot, rather than a screwball comedy. *shrug*

Anyway, I'm guessing Weinstein Co. is banking on the still-rolling Apatow train to bring in some good publicity for KBell, that could ripple into a positive opening and returns for Fanboys around the same time framethat Dumped opens - Memorial Day 2008.  But then - that's right back into the start of the summer movie season, which is what delayed Fanboys the first time around, back in August 2006, when it was originally supposed to be released. *sigh* I guess we'll just have to wait and see.  I really hope this gets the theatrical release, though, and not just some DVD-only brush-off.  The 10-minute clip I saw back in January at the FX Show, with the cast and crew panel, was laugh-out-loud hysterical.

*ETA: IESB has added a new still from the film along with their article on the release-delay.  It's another shot of Kristen in the Leia gold bikini slave outfit. Not much else to be said, other than 'mmmm... yummy'. Direct-linked due to large size.

Geek-chic has never been hotter.

Lastly, it seems ABC is going to be releasing a strike-adjusted spring schedule later today, according to Michael Ausiello at TV Guide online. Only thing I really care about with that is whether or not the 8 filmed episodes of Lost S4 will be on it - and if so, when.  February was the plan, but now I'm hearing April, if at all.  *grumble*

Back to work...

I'm not sure if there's a cap on how much enjoyment I get out of Pushing Daisies.  Each episode has just been chock-full of smile-worthy moments and tons of quotable dialogue - some of the most quotable material since Veronica Mars and all of its rapid-fire pop-culture references.

Last week's episode "Bitches" (hilarious episode title) and last night's "Smell of Success" continued the so-far excellence of this series, and my near love-affair with its quality.  Stand-out lines, in addition to the entry title above:

"Satisfaction through olfaction."

"Get a load of Muggy McHambone."

"Don't make me cut a bitch."

'Jews for Cheese' (on a shirt)

"'Ned!' 'Chuck!' 'Oscar.' 'Napoleon.' ... ... 'Hi, Emerson.' 'Hey. Olive.'" (expressions were priceless)

And the cuteness of the cup-pies and hilarity of Emerson's 'Knit-Wit Magazine' also made me grin.

Will also mention what many others have said, that Heroes continued its great upswing on Monday, with 2.09 - "Cautionary Tales".  Just as good as "Four Months Ago", IMO, and made even better by the bad-assery of Noah Bennet and the slow-reveal of backstory for Elle.  Seeing the reasoning as to why she's slightly insane makes her not quite so evil, and has me even more curious of her future path.  Also liked the parallel to last season's moment with Claire waking up on the autopsy table, as Noah comes to after eye-regeneration with the "Holy Sh--!" moment.  Good stuff.

Oh, and Kristen in a bikini.  With oodles of attention given to her legs. Yum.  'Nuff said.

And in checking the flist, I found a simple meme from [info]candlewaxdreams, and decided to make a voice post of my own like she did.  It lets the flisters know what you may sound like, and is an easy enough way for a first time voice post.  However, I sent the call through to post it almost 15 minutes ago, and it still hasn't shown up, so if it does ever appear after this entry, then I'll get to see if it's actually audible and makes sense.

Lastly, though it's a little belated since the day is almost over, Happy Thanksgiving to all.  Some days may seem quite shitty in each and every one of our lives from time to time, but just the simple fact we have a luxury like LJ to actually vent and interact is proof that there are many things for which we can be thankful.  At least, I know I am, in spite of any bitching from day to day.

And since I'm actually caught up on new TV from this week, other than what's on tonight, I need to go watch some football. USC/Arizona St. is actually a decent game right now, and there's still some NFL on, too.

Heroes: 2.08 - "Four Months Ago"
Just getting on here super-quick because, for me, this was one of the best episodes of the entire series so far - for obvious reasons (Kristen is haaaaaht!) - and for the overall quality of actual character movement and story, for everyone involved. This one easily sits up there with my previous favorite of the series, "Company Man" from season one.

And really, for me to get online right after the episode ends is kind of a big deal, because this show runs so hot and cold with me.  [info]_cinjudes_and [info]schrutefanknow that I've continually questioned the 'potential versus execution' with this show, and tonight was one of those episodes that actually came through on the promise of thrilling storytelling the show can manage.  It's the woeful consistency that always makes me question why it's such a cult favorite. I don't xpect much anymore in the way of great development, dialogue, and continuity (like I do with Lost), so I  guess when Heroes manages to once in a while exceed those lowered expectations by leaps and bounds, it really stands out. This is short, but I'll stil cut it to avoid being spoilery.

All in all, good stuff.  And kudos to the wardrobe/costume department responsible for Elle's outfits.  Not too trashy, but revealing and *ahem* supportive in all the right places.  Brav-fucking-O!

*Edited Edited Edited Edited*

This post is just a quickie, and mainly just for [info]houses7177, since I told her I'd keep her informed. She's probably not immediately interested, being otherwise "indisposed" with the surprise return of her honey, but at least I'm spreading the comic-fandom diligently. ;)

The release date actually snuck up on me, and today is the day for the first collection of issues from Buffy the Vampire Slayer - Season Eight. I'll go ahead and throw in the official Dark Horse page HERE. *The release date has been updated/changed to Oct. 31st*

This trade paperback is comprised of the first five issues - all written by the Joss-man himself - the arc of which is titled "The Long Way Home".  It also has all new cover art by the amazing Jo Chen, which I'm placing a link to:

The Long Way Home

And that's really all I've got right now, since work is totally kicking my ass.

Oh - and a super-big *HUG* for [info]_cinjudes_, since she could probably use one.

Oh, and lastly - just a shout that Monday's promo at the end of Heroes was THE best Heroes promo in the history of the show. The reasons are obvious. That is all.

I know, I know - I'm really venturing into one-track obsessive territory here, but there is just so much mention-worthy stuff popping up about Kristen, I can't help myself.

Not to be outdone by his TV Guide cohort Matt Webb Mitovich, Michael Ausiello nabbed an exclusive Q & A with Kristen after yesterday's press release about her Heroes gig this fall.  Link to the article and comments found HERE, but I'll c/p under the cut, too:

The best part, I think:
Ausiello: Congrats on the Heroes gig! Is this some kind of evil plot of yours to send fanboys over the edge?
Bell: Absolutely! It's all part of my plan for world domination - and by world, I mean Fanboy World.

True that.

It seems this "multi-episode arc" will be at least 13 episodes - with the open-ended possiblity for more.  That's a pretty big deal.  I just pray that the writing can be cranked up a notch or two (or five) in quality, giving her character some better stuff to work with than what comprised much of season one.  Regardless, though, seeing what she can do with the role has me intrigued as hell.

And apparently, there may be a few bits regarding Kristen's thoughts on the Veronica Mars season three (not series) finale in tomorrow's spoiler-filled Ask Ausiello column.  I may or may not have stuff to add about that, too. We'll see.

Yet more Kristen Bell news... sorry, but it's pretty big - I couldn't resist.

It seems like now we know why Kristen was kinda coy in turning down a possibly recurring role on Lost.

Apparently she had already signed on to be in a few episodes of Heroes this season, playing a character named Elle, who ties into the Peter/Claire/Mr. Bennet story somehow.  Breaking news article from TV Guide Online:

I must say, the loss of her possibly being on Lost makes more sense now, as this role seems to be for a multi-episode mini-arc, but not as a full-time recurring character.  Gives her plenty of room for other film work, as well as that still-talked about spot on Broadway next winter/spring.

Heroes is not even in the same league, quality-wise, as Lost, but it does have lots of hype and recent exposure, so kudos for my girl landing a part where she'll get some face time.  My only concern is how much we may actually see of this character Elle.  Heroes is already a  big ensemble, and seems to have added almost a half-dozen new tertiary characters over the summer.

No matter for me, though - Kristen will be far and away the very best thing that has happened to that show, as I'm sure she'll make the most of what she's given.

Holy Crap.  It's been a month since my last entry.

I won't get all "woe-is-me, work sucks, been too busy" as an excuse - but will just say that real life has been sucking all of my available free moments as of late, and any down-time at work has been non-existent.  I've had little LJ time to even read and catch up with stuff on my flist, let alone update my own - thus the slacking. And it pisses me off, because fandom crap makes me happy.

Anyway, I have been trying to keep up with my self-imposed TV commenting, but needed to play catch-up with that, too, for the last few weeks. I'm almost all they way there, though - only behind on thoughts for last week's Bones and Lost, and the frak-tastic season finale of Battlestar Galactica. So... I wanted to go ahead and list a bunch of links on shows that have aired since my last entry.  As usual, all the fake cuts lead to comments posted at Wicked-Insanity, and I'll try to keep these as chronological-by-airing as possible.

Veronica Mars: 3.15 - "Papa's Cabin"

Lost: 3.10 - "Tricia Tanaka is Dead"

Battlestar Galactica: 3.17 - "Maelstrom"

Heroes: 1.18 - "Parasite"

Lost: 3.11 - "Enter 77"

Battlestar Galactica: 3.18 - "The Son Also Rises"

Bones: 2.15 - "Bodies in the Book"

Lost: 3.12 - "Par Avion"

Smallville: 6.16 - "Promise"

Supernatural: 2.16 - "Roadkill"

Battlestar Galactica: 3.19 - "Crossroads" (pt.1)

Bones: 2.16 - "The Boneless Bride in the River"

Lost: 3.13 - "The Man from Tallahassee"

Smallville: 6.17 - "Combat"

Supernatural: 2.17 - "Heart"

I won't even get into the whole Veronica Mars 'will-they or won't-they' fiasco. The CW is running a piss-poor business model of a network, both financially - and especially creatively, if the show gets cut off similar to the shit pulled on Everwood last season.  Thoughts of the show not being around anymore at all make my heart hurt, when mind-numbing garbage like the Pussycat Dolls gets higher ratings, so I won't elaborate on anything more until "official" word of its future is announced in May.

I feel like there's a whole lot more random crap I should just put here since it's been so long, but I'm tired and it's Sunday night, which means more work tomorrow.  And I need to go watch my DVR-ed Dresden Files

I know I'm severly slacking on my episodic dilligence, as I've yet to get completely caught up with comments through this week's stuff at W-I.  However I plan to "leave no show behind", and will link a few things to recent posts here right now:

Lost: 3.09 - "Stranger in a Strange Land"

Battlestar Galactica: 3.16 - "Dirty Hands"

Heroes: 1.17 - "Company Man"

I have yet to speak on this week's Veronica and Lost, and still want to get in a (brief) write-up of my weekend at MegaCon 2007.  I will get to that as soon as I can, I promise.

Now I need to get some food.

So, I typically don't like going more than a week without adding at least something here, now that I've gotten into the swing of fairly regular updates - but work and real life stuff has just sucked any and all free time as of late.  Mainly, I needed to get some links to comments for a week's worth of TV.  Fake cuts to all posted at W-I. And I'll keep these in more or less chronological order:

Bones: 2.14 - "The Man in the Mansion"

Lost: 3.08 - "Flashes Before Your Eyes"

Smallville: 6.15 - "Freak"

Supernatural: 2.15 - "Tall Tales"

Battlestar Galactica: 3.15 - "A Day in the Life"

Heroes: 1.16 - "Unexpected"

And one of the longest commentaries/brain spews I've posted in a long while.  The seasonal/series implications left me a little dark and rumbly inside...

Veronica Mars: 3.14 - "Mars, Bars"

Friday Night Lights still continues to amaze me, but its future is still questionable, too.  If that and Veronica don't get renewed - two of my top six shows - I may have to hit something or somebody very hard, repeatedly.  Seriously - I won't be a happy camper for quite a while, and that's an understatement.

In the realm of guilty-pleasures ending, the series finale of The O.C. was last night, and it was actually not too shabby.  A little rushed for all the stuff that was up in the air leading into the hour, but not a bad resolution in the last 20 minutes.  The Cohens moved back up to Berkeley, Ryan finished college and made a go of it with Taylor, Julie and Kaitin are independent women, and Seth and Summer found their way back to each other after parting to grow individually, and walked down the isle. For a show that was often cheese, sometimes poignant (surprisingly), but at other times hilarious, it had a decent run.

For as much of a prime-time soap that it does tend to be, Grey's Anatomy the last two weeks has been pretty damn good.  And I belatedly realized that Marti Noxon wrote last night's episode, which was unexpected.  I actually really enjoyed the ep. - something that escaped me once in a while when she was exec. producing the latter episodes of BtVS. But I won't go any further into that.

Last week's The Office was directed by Joss Whedon, while last night's was helmed by J.J. Abrams.  Both episodes were hilarious and not very much changed from their usual style of shot selection and editing - which is how it should be, I think, even with superstar directors. The essence of what makes the show unique should remain, and it did.  And Jim is still my hero a little bit. Scrubs was side-splitting last week and the week before, and I've yet to watch last night's.  I'll do that tonight, for sure.

I still have to put some words together from this past Wednesday's Lost, and also want to give a brief recap of my experience last weekend at MegaCon here in Orlando.  I'll try to do so before the weekend is over.

Thank God it's Fucking Friday.

Just a brief entry for some comments:

Smallville: 6.14 - "Trespass"

Supernatural: 2.14 - "Born Under A Bad Sign"

Battlestar Galactica: 3.14 - "The Woman King"

Heroes: 1.15 - "Run!"

Tonight has new Veronica, with new Friday Night Lights, Bones, and Lost tomorrow.

And I'm frakkin' exhausted - SO ready to leave work in a few.  My couch is calling my name.  That is all.

Work is so kicking my ass, but I've got to add an entry here for new TV before I burst.  Fake cuts to brief comments at W-I, as usual, for stuff from the last week:

Bones: 2.12 - "The Man in the Cell"

Smallville: 6.13 - "Crimson"

Supernatural: 2.13 - "Houses of the Holy"

Heroes: 1.14 - "Distractions"

Last week's Friday Night Lights was intense and poignant as usual, while Thursday's Scrubs, The Office and The O.C. were also wholly entertaining in their hilarity.

Tonight is new Veronica (yay! but ugh! -- the angst!), and tomorrow is all new, with Friday Night Lights, Bones, and the return of Lost - finally.  Thursday's slate of TV is all new, too. Kick-ass couple of days. Or at least, it would be if work didn't suck so hard.

Back to it.

I've spent most of today scrambling to put at least a few sentences together for the new TV over the last week that's worth commenting on.  All of which was done while trying to accomplish at least a modicum of work here... at work. And while my thoughts still drift back to the weekend... ::sigh::

Anyway... I managed to add a few blurbs at W-I, so new linkage under the cuts:

Smallville: 6.12 - "Labyrinth"

Supernatural: 2.12 - "Nightshifter"

Battlestar Galactica: 3.13 - "Taking A Break from All Your Worries"

Heroes: 1.13 - "The Fix"

and my treasured, my adored,

Veronica Mars: 3.11 - "Poughkeepsie, Tramps and Thieves"

Tonight brings new Friday Night Lights and Bones - two of my favorites, so that's mucho goodness right there.

And just for shits and giggles, I've decided for an indefinite period to end each update with the statement, "Kristen Bell is awesome."  Just because I wanna.  And she SO is.

Kristen Bell is awesome.

Jeff
So it's Wednesday, and work sucks, and I have entirely too much to do, and I'm impatient for Lost and Bones to return.

On a personal note, trouble/dumb luck seems to follow my brother like a plague sometimes.
All that said, here's some commenting for Heroes from Monday and the return of my beloved Veronica from last night.  Cuts to links at W-I, of course:

Heroes: 1.12 - "Godsend"

Veronica Mars: 3.10 - "Show Me the Monkey"

Also will mention that 24 is still, minute-for-minute, the most action-packed and tensely-plotted series on TV.  Season six has really started off with bang - literally. The relevance to current topical issues (terrorism and homeland security-related and such) is striking a good balance right now, to be referential to reality without lecturing or soap-boxing us.  I think both the left- and right-leaning politicos are getting some attention in this nuclear-threat arc so far, and I'm intrigued with how Jack is being portrayed - far from confident, and still pretty lost to what his life means anymore, in the big scheme of things.  Can't wait for next Monday.

Tonight brings a new episode of Friday Night Lights, so my dramatic-quality void this night left by the haituses of Lost and Bones is filled nicely by this gem.  I'll enjoy it as long as it lasts.  Oh, and I forgot in the last update to briefly mention the genius of creator Bill Lawrence, and his entire cast and crew on Scrubs.  Last Thursday was the much-anticipated musical episode, and it did not disappoint at all.  It was as musically- and lyrically-inspired for comedy as "Once More With Feeling" from BtVS was for drama.  Seriously.  I think Scrubs is my all-time favorite sitcom - in both single camera or four-camera/traditional formats.  It's just fucking hysterical.

Two more days until the start of the FX Show that I'll be attending with my dad.  As I think I've already mentioned, I've never been to a Con before, so it should be an experience. The cast of Fanboys is only there on Saturday, so I'll need to make sure I scope all the pertinent details of celebrity meet-and-greet protocol on Friday, to be ready to go with the flow for autographs and photos and stuff.  I had actually ordered a small token of appreciation to give to Kristen - okay, a schmoopy gift - since I'm a fan, but it has taken waaay longer than I anticpated to be shipped, and if it doesn't make it to my house by Friday's mail, I'll miss out on the chance to give it to her. Not a huge deal, but it would be cool as hell if I could gift-it.  FYI, HERE is what I ordered.

And I am putting off work as much as possible. This is not good.

11 December 2006 @ 11:40 am
Since the fall schedule has (mercifully) been getting closer to the winter hiatus/repeats schedule, I only have a few things to add for this update.  Links to W-I from the fake cuts, in chronological airing order:

Battlestar Galactica: 3.09 - "Unfinished Business"

Heroes: 1.11 - "Fallout"

Smallville: 6.09 - "Subterranean"

Supernatural: 2.09 - "Croatoan"

Battlestar Galactica: 3.10 - "The Passage"

The Office and Scrubs have also been side-splitting, as is customary, Friday Night Lights is still THE best new show this fall season, and The O.C. has managed to really be quite fun to enjoy, now that the Marissa black-hole of development is gone - I just can't get into detail on everything.

Tonight, tomorrow and Wednesday bring the three-parts of the latest Sci-Fi Channel miniseries The Lost Room.  Looks kinda X-Files/Twin Peaks-ish, so I'm curious.  It's sci-fi, and Peter Krause is the lead, so I'll check it out.

Speaking of Peter Krause,

Back to work.

Howdy! Since the Turkey Day holiday wiped out a lot of new TV, my commenting here is fairly brief.  I'll add a couple of links to W-I:

The Nine: 1.07 - "Outsiders"

Heroes: 1.10 - "Six Months Ago"

And a couple of real cuts here:

In addition to great TV, I also wanted to add another meme of sorts, one ganked from [info]_cinjudes_, who got it from [info]dodger_winslow.

Jeff
22 November 2006 @ 11:25 am
In an effort to reduce the volume of episodes I comment on from one update to the next, I have a chance to add an entry sooner rather than later.  Links to a few things since last Thursday are below:

Smallville: 6.08 - "Static"

Supernatural: 2.08 - "Crossroad Blues"

The Office: 3.08 - "The Merger"

Battlestar Galactica: 3.08 - "Hero"

Heroes: 1.09 - "Homecoming"

And Rob Thomas's crew of writers on Veronica Mars certainly have a knack for emotionally kicking my ass.  Last night's episode was quality as usual, with a viscerally raw edge to the troubles with LoVe that leaves me anxious for more, but nervously worried for the characters' paths - to the point I continually contemplate the plot-arc fallout from week to week. If that kind of character-attachment isn't a sign of outstanding TV, I don't know what is. The cut below is actually a real one, not just a link to W-I, since I wanted to c/p my commenting on the ep here, for posterity's sake:

And since I am almost certain to not be online much - if at all - tomorrow, early "Happy Turkey Day".

Jeff
17 November 2006 @ 02:43 pm
So... yeah.  I know I'm struggling to maintain my personal goal to try and just add entries on at least a weekly basis, to cover all the new installments of the shows in the unhealthy amount of television I keep up with.  Work has just been kicking my ass recently - the office has been busy as shit, with some of the most asinine dipshits coming across my path. And between watching said TV shows, and being too tired/apathetic to get online at home at night or much on the weekends, I'm just behind.  Hell - I'm doing this update from work in a few moments of slacking.

Anyway, I'll add fake cuts/links to the bit of commenting I have kept up with at Wicked Insanity.  I've dropped off a few shows, with regards to religiously adding something every week - including Prison Break, Studio 60, Friday Night Lights, and Grey's Anatomy.  I still watch them all, but just cannot manage to brain spew on every single one all the time, even if I really want to (esp. Friday Night Lights, The O.C.).  That said, here are the essential additions since my last new TV entry, in their weekly chronological airing order:

Heroes: 1.07 - "Nothing to Hide"

Prison Break: 2.10 - "Rendezvous"

Justice: 1.08 - "Shark Week"

Veronica Mars: 3.06 - "Hi, Infidelity"

Bones: 2.08 - "The Woman in the Sand"

Lost: 2.06 - "I Do"

The Nine: 1.06 - "Take Me Instead"

Smallville: 6.07 - "Rage"

The Office: 3.07 - "Branch Closing"

Supernatural: 2.07 - "The Usual Suspects"

Battlestar Galactica: 3.07 - "A Measure of Salvation"

Heroes: 1.08 - "Seven Minutes to Midnight"

Veronica Mars: 3.07 - "Of Vice and Men"

Bones: 2.09 -  "Aliens in a Spaceship"

Smallville: 6.08 - "Static"

God help me, I'm still trying to keep up.  And I have yet to finish Grey's Anatomy from last night, or even start The Office and Supernatural.  I'll post on them next time.  I think Justice is axed for good, as FOX pulled it from the schedule this week and next - and may only offer the rest of the 13 or so episodes filmed online.  That's a bummer, since I really was enjoying it.

Lost
is gone until February, so that's a break from some heavy pondering each week, but I managed to catch the 2-hour premiere of Day Break, running in Lost's time slot for 13 weeks.  I have to say, in spite of some not-so-favorible criticisms by reviewers, I quite liked it. It's got the thriller aspects down, as sort of a Groundhog Day-meets-24. Taye Diggs seems like a watchable lead character as Det. Brett Hopper, and the nature of the setup leaves me with thoughts of  "what the hell is going on here?", so I need to have some questions answered.  Nothing else is on in that slot (where I'd be watching Lost anyway), so I'll stick with it for now.

Tonight is more eye-candy with The Ghost Whisperer, and the upper-echelon  of TV excellence with Battlestar Galactica - and Dixon from ALIAS is guest-starring!  Can't-miss TV.

And... I'm out.
