What's the word? "Procrastination".
Random '50 Questions' meme of sorts, snagged from nemo_gravis, who ganked it from mas90.  Just wanted to procrastinate from dealing with work.  It's long and pointless, so...

1. Elaborate on your default icon.
Pretty simple but awesome.  An avi made by  _cinjudes_from the Superman Returns one sheet poster.  Just a tad bit of texturing - simple, like I like.

2. What's your current relationship status?
Single.  But open to prospects?

3. Ever have a near-death experience?
Not that I can recall, but I may be offering up some to University of Florida fans who won't shut the fuck up after last night...

4. Name an obvious quality you have.
I've been told that I'm tall (that's a quality, right?).  And marginally intelligent.

5. What's the name of the song that's stuck in your head right now?
"Right Here, Right Now" by Fatboy Slim.  I'm still a little awestruck by its use in the Veronica Mars episode 3.09 "Spit & Eggs".  Rob Thomas is a frakkin' genius - and has decent musical taste.

6. Any celeb you would marry?
Oh jeez. This is one of those things that some can get carried away with. People who know me could probably guess my top faves of celebrity fantasies.  But just to indulge this survey, I could imagine myself perfectly content with (in no particular order) Sarah Michelle Gellar, Kristen Bell, or Jennifer Love Hewitt.  All HIGHLY marry-able.

7. Who will cut and paste this first?
Meh. *shrugs* Dunno.  I've seen it on a few other LJs before I got to it.  _cinjudes_may take a crack at it if she has time and is bored.  But other than that, no one, probably.  I'm posting this mainly to just ignore the work on my desk that's giving me the evil eye.

8. Has anyone ever said you look like a celebrity?
Sorta.  In high school, there was a short period where I actually had a flat-top, crew-cut type haircut.  No lie.  And as I was more blonde then than I am now, some compared me to Ivan Drago (Dolph Lundgren) from Rocky IV.  Other than that, Cindy said I looked like a bad guy from season four of ALIAS - even made an avatar of the comparison. That's it, I think.

9. Do you wear a watch? What kind?
I have two that I rotate.  Both Fossil Blue.  Both have brushed steel bands. One has a silver/brushed steel face, with chronometer and stopwatch, the other was a gift a few years ago from my friend Michelle, and is a Florida State team watch with the Chief Osceola logo on the face that flashes. I love them both.

10. Do you have anything pierced?
Nope.  Never will.

11. Do you have any tattoos?
No.  Thought of getting the Superman 'S' shield on one of my shoulders back in college, but never went through with it.  I may be kinda past the age where I could get away with something like that.  But I'll never say never on the idea.

12. Do you like pain?
Like I said above - some odd questions.  Umm... no.  I'm not a masochist that gets off on torture, so I can't say that I'm a fan of pain.  Only time I remotely appreciate it is the burn or ache after a good workout.  At least then you know you've put in some positive effort toward progress.

13. Do you like to shop?
I don't like to shop.  I like to buy things.  I equate shopping with browsing and searching and looking for things that might be cool to buy - all shit that annoys me.  I want to see something I need or want, get it, and move along.  Of course, the lack of $$$ or spending too much $$$ when I shouldn't are always factors, so the whole 'buying things' is also a love/hate dichotomy.  Which is why Best Buy is simultaneously the greatest AND most evil store on the planet.

14. What was the last thing you paid for with cash?
I bought some cereal, milk, and beer last night at Publix.  Paid with cash.

15. What was the last thing you paid for with your credit card?
Bought gas for Lana at my corner Exxon last night.  Used my Discover Platinum.

16. Who was the last person you spoke to on the phone?
My dad.  About coming over for dinner last night.

17. What is on your desktop background?
Here at work, it's THIS. Proudly displaying my geek-pride. At home, I have a combo wallpaper incorporating THIS pic, and THIS one.  KBell = Love.

18. What is the background on your cell phone?
A small version of THIS pic.  I know, I know - I'm a little infatuated.  I don't need to be told...

19. Do you like redheads?
Redheads don't usually fill my list of the usual hotties - brunettes are generally the majority there - but it all depends on the woman.  And there are a few who definitely float my boat. One of the more adorable is HERE

20. Do you know any twins?
Used to.  There were two sets I went to school with in elementary and middle school - a set of identical brothers, and a pair of fraternal sisters. Wonder whatever happened to them?  Don't know any anymore.

21. Do you have any weird relatives?
Please. Who doesn't? I think that's an unbreakable law of nature.

22. What was the last movie you watched?
In theaters: We Are Marshall.  On DVD: Invincible.  Both good, inspirational flicks. Both based on true stories.  But the former is much more emotional, less 'Disney-fied'.

23. What was the last book you read?
Wow.  It's pretty sad how long it's been since I've really read anything substantial, now that I seriously think about it.  Does the graphic art book of Superman Returns count?  Before that, probably my re-read of Greg Bear's The Forge of God and the sequel Anvil of Stars - both excellent sci-fi novels.

24. Is there such a thing as love at first sight, or it is more likely to be "lust at first sight"?
I believe there is.  But lust is waaay more common, since love requires an emotional involvement that's hard to pinpoint upon first encounters.  But it's possible.

25. What's your favorite novel?
My three-way tie has remained since high school: The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas, 1984 by George Orwell, and Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury.

26. When was the last time you visited the street where you first lived?
Umm.  Last night.  Since my parents still live in the same house where I was raised sicne birth.

27. Do you read your horoscope?
Perhaps once a week if I catch that section of the paper.  But I don't purposely search for it.

28. Who's your favorite of the seven dwarves?
Smarmy.  Not technically one of the 'seven', as he's Grumpy's 2nd cousin, once removed. They don't let him near Snow White - due to his less-than-honorable intentions - but he sure can hold his liquor. Which is really saying something for a dwarf.

29. When was the last time you googled your own name?
Never have. *runs off to look*

30. What was your favorite subject at school?
Probably English.  I ended up minor-ing in it in college.  I always loved to read good literature, and became decent at writing about it for papers and essays and such.

31. What was your least favorite subject at school?
Math of all kinds, especially in college. Even Physics (which is just math disguised as science) - was the bane of my existence.  I always did OK through school with most math, but I had to work hard at it.

32. Do you like having your photograph taken?
Not especially, since I don't usually like most pictures taken of me.  But I know they are important, for memories and posterity, so I don't hate photos.  I prefer taking them of others, though.

33. What time were you born?
I believe around 10:20 AM.  C-Section.

34. Ever seriously questioned your sanity?
Not seriously, no.  But in a fandom-related, 'why do I subject myself to this' capacity - I have in the past.

35. How many phone numbers do you have remembered and can say off the top of your head?
Not a whole hell of a lot.  Maybe half a dozen?  Perhaps a few more if I really thought hard.

36. Can you Limbo?
Yes.  But not very well.  The being tall thing usually kicks me out of the game early.

37. Have you ever killed your own dinner?
Only fish.  Never been hunting, if that's what's inferred.  But I've caught my share of trout before, and ate it that same evening.

38. How long have you been living at your current residence?
It will be two years in February.  Holy shit.  Time is flying at warp speed.

39. What phobias do you have?
Phobias?  Not really sure.  I'm not too fond of snakes or sharks (in Florida we have plenty of both), but as for a debilitating, paralyzing fear - nothing that I can think of.

40. What's your ideal breakfast?
Oh, snap.  I could go on and on here.  Breakfast is THE BEST food.  Scrambled cheese eggs, bacon, sausage (links or patties), ham, crispy hash browns, homemade grits with lots of butter, cheese and bacon pieces mixed in.  Side of buttermilk biscuits and sausage gravy.  With tall glasses of Florida O.J. and 2% milk.  Frak, I'm hungry as hell now.

41. Where are you right now?
At my office workstation PC, putting off work and avoiding phone calls from the impatient, ungrateful public.

42. What book or movie title best summarizes your personality?
Braveheart (HA.) Or perhaps, the upcoming Fanboys.

43. If you could suddenly get the skill to play any single musical instrument, which would you choose?
Either the piano or the guitar.  Either a classical composer or a rock star.  Those are the choices.

44. Why do you blog?
Ummm.  It's a place to keep in touch with some of my online peeps, while also providing an outlet for the rantings and proclamations of my aforementioned inner-geek and proud fanboy.  Plus, it helps keep me up to date with pop-cultural phenomena related to my fandom interests.

45. Do you have any prejudices you're willing to acknowledge?
I have a tendency to get pissed off with tourists and may hold unfair grudges/biases against foreign visitors, since Orlando is a destination for so many travellers, and I deal with many aliens in my job.  I probably have other subconscious biases, but I don't like to acknowledge them, so they won't seem validated. Everyone - no matter how altruistic or noble - has some kind of prejudice over something.

46. What would you call your autobiography?
Big Mac. Or Vicarious Living Through Fandom. *shrug* Never even contemplated this idea.

47. What's the longest time you've stayed out of the country/where?
About 6 days on a Caribbean cruise?  Never been too far away from the U.S.  My family road trip to Alaska after high school involved two separate three-day sojourns through western Canada, up and back.  Not exactly exotic.

48. Do you use ICQ, AOL Buddy list etc..?
I have MSN Messenger and Yahoo! Messenger installed, but I mainly just use AOL IM (Dead AIM).  But I haven't really been on in ages.

49. Do you have nightmares frequently?
No.  Bad dreams once in a great while, but rarely nightmares.  Haven't had any dreams that I can remeber in a while, though.

50. If you were another person, would you be friends with you?
I hope so.  I'd like to think I'm pretty swell, and if I couldn't be friends with me, how would I expect anyone else to?

Like I said, random and a bit odd.

I suppose I should try to work some.

OMG - I made up my mind to c/p before you even called me on it. Duh!

God, I love you Daddy! And even though to me most of your answers were already obvious to me, I still got a kick out of reading them and will have tons of fun doing this myself.

You mean this:::

'cause you so.freakin'.do.

I knew you'd whip out the icon - it's kinda why I mentioned it. That guy's hair is more curly than mine, though, I think. And now I'm more buff. Hee.

I got a kick out of reading others' answers to this, so I figured it would be a worthwhile time-waster.

*waves* (friended you a while ago due to VM and other similar interests)

"'Right Here, Right Now' by Fatboy Slim. I'm still a little awestruck by its use in the Veronica Mars episode 3.09 'Spit & Eggs'. Rob Thomas is a frakkin' genius - and has decent musical taste."

Oh, I loved the use(s),too. Though, it always creeps me out a little bit when I get it stuck in my head, now, for I forget that I'm not Veronica and have no need to draw my very own uicorn for I am not in danger. *head shake*

Man, KB never stops being mind meltingly gorgeous. Those pics? Huzzoh.

Breakfast food is so awesome. Nothing beats a good biscuit or scrambled eggs.

I now think the dwarfs can totally suck it, I would personally love to hang with Smarmy. Hee.

Just noticed the friend-ing today, I've been so out of it since the holidays. Thanks for the comment, and since everybody could always use another friend, I'll friend you back!

Wow, given your userpics, we have a lot of fandoms in common. I, too, work for the federal government. Which branch are you in? I'm Army. Also, I'm in Orlando regularly in route to Patrick AFB and Cocoa Beach. I see my Lj buddy empressvesica a few times a year there. Good stuff!
Jeff: Firefly - Mal & Inara - shindig1j_mac179 on January 11th, 2007 03:57 pm (UTC)
I recall Cindy mentioning you were with the Army. I'm in civil service - I work for SSA, located at the federal building in downtown Orlando. It's been over four years now - dayum that's kinda scary now that I think about it.

It's cool that you seem to get to travel quite a bit, and nice coincidence that you make it to central FL.

And as you'll be able to tell, I'm all about the fandoms - I get a tad obsessed with a certain few. I'm going to the two big cons here for the first time this month and next, so I'm a little anxious. And I'm all for the quality fanfic, so I'll definitely check out your fic LJ when I get a chance!
houses: Kaylee Quote Cheesehouses7177 on January 11th, 2007 04:07 pm (UTC)
I would like to travel less, which I think I can manage in the upcoming year. Between July and October of last year, I spent three weeks in Alaska, two in Hawaii, a month in Korea, a week in North Carolina and a week in Cocoa Beach. That's ridiculous.

I've never been to a Con before, though I've always been curious. Fandoms are fun--right now I'm all about Supernatural, Veronica Mars, Bones and House, and we watch BSG and Lost on the offseason when everything's done. I think we're finally going to get around to S3 of BSG this weekend, but won't catch up on Lost until the summer when the full season is done. I'm a Jossverse addict, originally, and still have great love for BtVS, AtS and FF.
Jeff: bxw - friendsj_mac179 on January 11th, 2007 05:09 pm (UTC)
I really like Supernatural - 2nd best show on The CW - but as a heterosexual male, I kinda steer clear of the fandom. Wincest undertones - and fic - ain't really my bag.

I'll someday eventually get through House on DVD, as I've never seen it, but always heard good things. It just won't fit in my schedule, and it has killer ratings anyway, so it doesn't need me (unlike the criminally minimally-watched Veronica *pouts*).

Burning through S3 of Lost after all is said and done should be fun, but I'd never be able to restrain myself. I MUST watch as it happens (my current #1 show).

You're probably already aware (hence the "this weekend" part of your comment), but Sci-Fi channel is marathoning the first eleven episodes of BSG season 3 on Monday the 15th. Starts at 8AM, runs 'till 7PM, I believe.

Episdode 12 (the next new one) is at the new time slot, Sunday the 21st at 10PM. Just an FYI in case you didn't know.

And I will always be a sucker for anything in the Joss-verse, so word to that. BtVS is still my all time favorite show, for its originality and genre-shaping of the TV landscape. Angel continued the trends while blazing its own path, and Firefly... guh... I can still get misty over what could have been.

Wincest ookes me out on so many levels it's not even remotely funny. I wrote SPN genfic, with Cindy in mind, the other day, just to get the creepy feeling out of my brain. The only author I'll read does SPN xovers, either gen or het, is mhalachaiswords. She's brilliant. Pretty much everything else? Ookey. Also, not even remotely as likely canon-wise. The boys have a marvellous brotherly dynamic, and the very concept of wincest just ruins that. *shudder*

We always have done that with Lost, so it's nothing new. We're chronically a season behind since we didn't have a TV when it first began airing. Tradition and all that.

Mmmm, all BSG, all day long. We actually have them TiVo'd but will probably watch them again on Monday, in case TiVo accidentally ate one.

Firefly is perfection, BtVS began my love affair, but AtS holds my heart strings.

JLH is highly-marriable even though she's not in my top 10... I'll explain in my own post. Very good answers all-around, Supes. Yeah, that's right. I'm calling you Supes now.
Jeff: SR - smirkj_mac179 on January 16th, 2007 02:28 pm (UTC)
Not surprisingly, it's is not the first time that nickname has been bestowed upon me. Doesn't bother me, and gets straight to the point. Super!
