My 2007-2008 TV schedule
The wait is over, as the new fall television season really kicks into full swing this week.  So, television addict that I am, I wanted to list my potential viewing schedule somewhere.  And this is as good a place as any.

Let's try to break this down night by night, starting on Sunday, for all series that I will at least give a shot or try to keep up with (cancellation notwithstanding), that are either new or returning.  And I'm counting Winter/Spring debuts in early 2008 here, too. Some of these I'm almost embarassed or ashamed to be admitting to, but I decided long ago that I'll choose for myself what's cool or 'good', other people's opinions be damned. New shows in bold.

Extreme Makeover: Home Edition (ABC); Desperate Housewives (ABC); Family Guy (FOX); Dexter (Showtime); Battlestar Galactica (SciFi)

-- Not sure if BSG will remain on Sundays, or shift back to Fridays, but it's on the schedule for sure.  And Nathan Fillion will be on DH this season.  'Nuff said.

How I Met Your Mother (CBS); Chuck; (NBC); Heroes (NBC); Journeyman (NBC); Prison Break (FOX); 24 (FOX); The Sarah Connor Chronicles (FOX)

-- NBC's lineup here could be entertaining all night, and HIMYM is great.  Prison Break is a chore, but I've already come this far. 24 looks to rebound in January from a lackluster S6, and I'd heard the new Terminator spin-off with Summer Glau was this night, but I could be mistaken.

Bones (FOX); Reaper (CW); Nip/Tuck (FX); The Shield (FX)

-- Bones is a favorite, and I've heard too much buzz about Reaper to not try it out, in spite of my CW disdain.  Nip/Tuck is still a guilty pleasure that can be stellar at times, and The Shield is in my top three.

Pushing Daisies (ABC); Bionic Woman (NBC); Private Practice (ABC); Gossip Girl (CW); Lost (ABC)

-- Daisies seems to have the best critical word-of-mouth of any new show, so I'm curious.  Bionic Woman is some contemporary sci-fi, and Katee Sackhoff recurs, so I'm there.  I actually did like Kate Walsh in the guilty pleasure of Grey's, and I like Taye Diggs and Tim Daly, so I will try this spin-off - it could tank fast, though.  _cinjudes_will want to strangle me for even giving GG a go, but my KBell sickness is the reason for it.  I watched the half-way wretched pilot last Wed. (the last 15 minutes were watchable), and pathetically was woo-ed by Kristen's voice in her anonymous narration *hangs head in shame*.  And the best show on TV returns for 16 uninterrupted episodes in February.

My Name is Earl (NBC); The Office (NBC); Smallville (CW); Scrubs (NBC); 30 Rock (NBC); Supernatural (CW); Grey's Anatomy (ABC); ER (NBC); Big Shots (ABC).

-- NBC's comedies are pretty much 'must see TV again', and ER is about to wrap up this season, I believe.  I've stuck through it all, so I can't quit now. My obligatory Superman-worship is the only thing that's kept me with the farce that is SV, whereas Supernatural is now the gem of The CW.  GA, while soapy, does have its moments, so I'm sticking with it, and Big Shots may very well be a shitty Sex and the City -for-men, but I gotta follow Michael Vartan, and word is that Charisma Carpenter may be recurring here. Yum.

Ghost Whisperer (CBS); Moonlight (CBS); Friday Night Lights (NBC); Stargate: Atlantis (Sci-Fi)

-- Justification for GW - three words: Jennifer Love Hewitt.  Will always love her - for more than just her "assets", too. Honest.  Moonlight has the potential to either be marginally cool or to totally suck, but watching Jason Dohring act is worth the risk.  I'm hoping FNL can get some loyal audience holds - and perhaps find a niche here, as it so deserves to be seen by everyone.  Atlantis may be paired up again with BSG, like I mentioned above - not sure.  Not a huge SG fan, but it's entertaining.

College football.  All. Day. :)

I may be neglecting some returning shows as well as new stuff that may have caught my interest, and just forgot to add them here.  I think this schedule is packed enough as it is, though.  And when I say I will watch these, I will watch them all, until they end or are canceled.  I don't drop in and out or randomly pick up.  Once I'm in, I'm stuck for the long (or short) haul.  _cinjudes_, schrutefan, and latinatemptresscan personally vouch for me there.

Feel free to either concur, mock or judge (or all three).  I can take all kinds of praise or scorn, no matter.  'Tis fun, and TV is my vice - I can't help it.

Kristen Bell is awesome.

I'm hoping Daisies lives up to the good press around it. Haven't seen the pilot yet. Other than Lost, the last few dramas ABC has put on Wednesdays haven't fared so well. And they were decent shows - I watched them all, lol.

And at the risk of damaging my masculinity, FNL is just magical.

Oh sweetie, it's not even worth my breath. You put up with me lusting over characters I can't even see and being, well, batshit nuts - and I see your *ahem* affliction with more of a state of equality between us. We understand one another precisely because we are a bit *ahem* off. ;P

That said - I frakkin knew you were gonna watch GG just for KB. KNEW IT! But I'm kinda disappointed in you for caving on the Reaper business. I must say I was a bit intrigued as well, but hey, you know - until it's a season in and the buzz is still pretty damn awesome - there are no chances of me TRYING to rope myself into another CW show. Just like I liked the sexilicious studs eye-candy potential in the boys on GG - but I am not lowering myself. But god bless you and your praise of SPN as always. *smooches* And oh so very true indeed.

Of course, I'm not only picking up Moonlight just for Jason D. - but I'm also lowering myself to jump into DH for Nathan. *sigh*

We aren't well my friend. Simply not well.

Word to all this - I could almost type this response from you myself, since I know how you think most of the time.

And I think we mutually resigned ourselves to accepting our "not well" status a while ago. *snoogins*

And don't you forget it buster. *sigh*

At least we have each other to continually enable. I swear sometimes I'm not sure if I ever would have become the fangirl I am today if I hadn't met you near the beginning of my online tenure. Matter of fact, I KNOW I wouldn't be. *smooch*

Now see, Ro - this is a perfectly acceptable lineup of weekly prime-time television hours. This is a sane person's TV schedule.

Which means it is about a sixth of mine, lol.

Lol, you've called me sane...hmmm this is very dangerous. XP

*sigh* I refused to get sucked into more, my DVD shelves canna handle any more! Your schedules is sane, if you've got DVR/Tivo/recording it somehow.
Jeff: VM - Dude!j_mac179 on September 25th, 2007 02:58 pm (UTC)
Oh yeah - a dual-tuner HD-DVR and two VCRs are the only way I can manage. Otherwise I'd need to be in two (or three - sometimes four) places at once.

The DVR is at once the greatest television accessory invention to date, while also emerging as the bane of a weekly social life...
ancient_immie: SPN: Blues Brothersancient_immie on September 25th, 2007 03:08 pm (UTC)
lol which is why I refuse to get a DVR. lol. I love TV, but I need a small semblance of a social life.

Oh thank God I'm not the only one who's watching Gossip Girl. ;) I swear Kristen Bell owns me sometimes.
Jeff: krsiten - 2006 Billboard -1j_mac179 on September 25th, 2007 12:31 am (UTC)
Yes! Someone else who will be (trying) to watch that show.

I'm not sure what your take on it was, but it needs to at least try to become a little more realistic, with some needed humor, too. If it could near the same levels of melodrama and humor of The O.C. (a guilty pleasure of mine), then I'd be straight with it.

As it was, I could barely stomach most of the pilot - the situations and characters were just so pretentious, and the acting leaves much to be desired. While watching, I would find myself just about ready to erase it from the DVR without going any further, then Kristen's voice would pop back in, and I'd be stuck again.

And talk about her owning you - I swear, I think I'd qualify for a permanent, industrial-sized "property of Kristen Bell" stamp on my ass. All the time now, it seems, lol.

I see a bit of overlap. :D

No apologies for Nip/Tuck. It really does have it's moments. Plus…the view ain't bad no matter which way you swing. Oh pretty shallow people – you're so fun to watch.

Pushing Daisies looks quite promising. And GG – yeah, KB's voice was the best part but hey, some of us grew up watching crap like 90210 so…nothing new under the sun, eh?

And Private Practice? PIZ is in it. Plus, Addison was one of the best characters from Grey's and the mini-pilot last season was interesting.

SPN. 'Nuff said.

Is ER really wrapping after this season? Please? I want to stop watching but then something always happens…Luka and Abby. Will Ray and Neela ever get together? Plus, I read too much wacky medical stuff and take great pleasure in getting the diagnosis before they do. :D

Moonlight - *blink* I'm watching it too…but I'm not holding my breath for anything amazing.

And man…Atlantis…drat. Please don't let it suck as bad as I think it's going to.
Jeff: SR - smirkj_mac179 on September 25th, 2007 01:40 pm (UTC)
I can't believe I'm saying this, but I'll actually defend 90210 a little bit, since I watched it. While not nearly as polished with high production values like many of the 21st century teen-oriented dramas, it actually tried hard with topical issues of the time, and most of the cast actually became half-way decent actors at times over the years when the script permitted. But it was still soapy, too.

And Chris Lowell's involvement in Private Practice is actually not a draw for me ;) (shocker)

I've heard from a few sources that this is probably the last year for ER. Noah Wylie will be in at least 8-10 episodes (maybe more) - with Carter back in Chicago - and a few other older castmates are trying to be lured back for cameos. Ray went through some serious shit at the end of last year (loss of legs), while Neela was getting trampled at an anti-war rally (cliffhanger). Not sure what will happen there.

Also crossing fingers for Moonlight, since Jason is right up there with Matthew Fox and Michael Chiklis among my favorite actors on TV right now. And I'll still watch Atlantis no matter what, because hey - Jewel Staite!

Ummm, when in the frak were you planning on telling me about Noah Wyle coming back to ER? After his arc started perhaps? *spits*

Very Bad Daddy indeed!

Now I have to watch that shit too. Give me repeated reminders before my beloved comes back so I can start watching it again. No way I can handle the whole season - I'm Carter centric.
Jeff: sarah - esq-cutej_mac179 on September 25th, 2007 03:02 pm (UTC)
I had actually forgotten about his come-back until just recently. But I should have brought it up in my initial entry. I apologize for not giving you the requisite fangirl heads-up.

I will definitely make you aware when his arc may begin - could be in either November or February sweeps, depending on how long it may be, and where his story fits in.
